One of the most critical aspects of SEO (search engine optimization) is keyword research. In order to attract potential customers to your site, you need to know what they are searching for. Understanding your customers needs will help guide your content strategy and marketing. A new tool is making it easier to do your keyword research, and it’s called Answer the Public.
What is Answer the Public?
Answer the Public is a goldmine for marketers. The free service builds off the “auto suggest” results information from Google and Bing. When you use a search engine and start typing a term, have you ever noticed how a variety of suggestions appear to help you with your search? These auto suggestions are based on an aggregate of what has been searched for. These snippets give you a hint of the motivations of the people behind each query.
What Does it Do?
Answer the Public compiles search questions and suggested autocomplete searches into a visual. The data is presented in an image called a “search cloud”. This visual displays the five w’s (who, what, why, where, when) and adds “how, “are”, “will”, “can” and “which”. For example, when I enter “best bar in new york” as a query at Answer the Public, my results look like this.
Use This Tool to Grow Your Traffic
How is this search cloud helpful? Dig into the data in the visual to guide you as you market to grow your traffic. Click on the “data” tab above the cloud to break down the information further. Searches are broken down by question, by preposition, by comparisons, by alphabeticals, and with related terms. Use this information to incorporate both common and long-tail keyword phrases in your content.
